RotatorSurvey Kiosk Surveys

The Kiosk Survey module allows you to capture data on a centralized computer where subjects in a self-applied fashion type their answer on it. It is possible to use an ATM or kiosk-specific hardware, but any common PC computer Windows 10 or Windows 11 works just fine. This is the ideal application for conference rooms, street events, open air events, etc. or to be used on any situation where the subjects to research gather together and there is not internet connection, or the Internet signal is poor. Surveys may vary from service satisfaction surveys, product tests, measure of organizational climate, etc. Remember that since kiosk survey are self-applied, they do not require an interviewer.

How to create a Kiosk Survey?
  • 1. Type each questions of your questionnaire (Activity 1, step Questions), define skips and the flow of the interview (Step Flow). Write instructions, introduction text and other texts for the questionnaire.
  • 2. Click on the round icon shown on the upper part of this document to get a preview of the kiosk survey screens. If you do not agree with texts, skip logic or instructions, just go back to the previous steps and make the necessary adjustments.
  • 3. Execute the step: Team work of the Activity 2 and define a user with the role Kiosk Supervisor. This person will be responsible for giving support to the subjects when filling up the survey.
  • 4. Install the App module called Rotator Kiosk Surveys on each computer (Kiosk) you will use for the data gathering process. Remember that Rotator requires computers running Windows 11 Windows or Windows 10.
  • 5. If the kiosk computer has access to a LAN, just move your surveys folder to a folder network and share it, so it can be accessed from the kiosk computer. (We recommend you to map this shared folder as a network disk. I.e. using the letters R:, Z:, etc. Ask your technical support team for help when performing this task)
  • 6. If the kiosk computer is isolated (There is no access to a LAN), just copy the surveys folder from your PC (where you created the survey) to a folder of the Kiosk PC using a Pen-drive.
  • 7. Ask the kiosks supervisor to open the Rotator Kiosk station and connect the survey copied. The system will be ready to start applying the self-applied survey. The application Rotator Kiosk Survey must stay open while the subjects respond to the survey.

How does a subject fill up a kiosk survey?
  • 1. The Kiosk (or PC) must be placed at a proper location; at a hotel lobby, at a registration table, close to the caf area, inside the focus group room, etc.
  • 2. The subject approaches the kiosk, select the application Rotator Kiosk Survey and press the button Start.
  • 3. If the survey is anonymous, it will simply start automatically, but If it has been programmed to ask for an ID, the software will request a code to identify the subject, in this way the system validates that each subject responds the survey just once.
  • 4. Once the user has finish, he or she press Save and is all set.
  • 5. A thank you message will show up and the system will return back to the Start screen, so another subject can proceed to answer the survey.

What to do when all kiosk surveys have been collected?

If the Kiosk computer was connected to a LAN, the administrator have to open the module Rotator Surveys Modeler then he goes to the step Data of Activity 3, and then selects the option Consolidate, this action will integrate all existing data from all kiosks connected and that data is now ready for its processing and further analysis.

If the kiosk computer is isolated (There is no connection to a LAN), the kiosk supervisor must export the data in a .DAT file format and sends it to the Admin using: his/her email, a flash-drive, or by any other media. Once the Admin receive the data, he then proceeds to import it in the step DATA of Activity 3.

Final Considerations for kiosk surveys
  • 1. The Kiosk Survey does not require an Internet connection. Surveys are conducted offline and data is stored directly onto the kiosk computer.
  • 2. The Kiosk Survey does not require an interviewer; this is a fully self-applied survey.
  • 3. The Kiosk Surveys module can only be executed on a Windows PC. A special hardware is not necessary required.
